First Readers are one of the most important roles we have at the magazine. We get far too many submissions each reading period to handle alone. Our First Readers are responsible for finding the gems. Essentially, they are the gatekeepers of Space and Time.
Being a First Reader does have benefits as well. It’s more than just a bullet point to add to your bio. Seeing how and what kind of work is submitted helps you hone your own submissions. You get comfortable with cover letters and how to format your own pieces for success. Besides that, you are invited to share your successes and upcoming events in our Behind Space and Time column every month and be interviewed for the same. We use the Duotrope’s Duosuma Submission’s Manager so you won’t need anything more than the desire to hunt down excellent stories.
If you enjoy reading speculative fiction and can spare time four times a year to read for us, please apply below.
We’re always on the lookout for talented individuals. If you would like to join our team, but don’t see the perfect posting for you, please submit your resume to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll keep your resume on file.
Sign up here for the monthly Closed Orbit newsletter. Find out when our submissions open up and what we are looking for, links to current awards and tips for getting your work out there beyond Space and Time. All this and more can be as close as your email.
